Dimapur, July 11 (MExN): The Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship of Dimapur (BPFD) has come out strongly against the recent ruling of the Delhi Court upholding gay rights. President of BPFD Rev Loli Kape during a brief interaction with the media at Town Baptist Church on Saturday said “We (BPFD) are totally against the move of the Delhi High Court for legalising homosexuality.”
They have appealed to the Union government to overturn the verdict. “Homosexuality is very unnatural and against all kinds of morality,” he said. However, he said that the clergy does not condemn homosexuals and instead the church is willing and ready to help them with spiritual counselling.
Dr DJ Das, president of East India Baptist Bible College in Tezpur echoed similar views. He said homosexuality is a moral or behavioural challenge faced by many people and ones who need understanding and accommodation. However, by “accommodation” he said “it does not mean that we approve their behaviour and allow it but that we show them how to overcome this challenge and not become a burden to the society.” “Homosexuality is not the only moral or behavioural challenge” he said.
“Drug abuse, addiction to porn, hatred for the opposite sex, rebellion, transgender thoughts etc” were what he said are “different moral challenges inherited by men, women, boys and girls of our society”. “But we don’t condemn them” he assured, “it’s only that we don’t accept the behaviour”.
“Everybody has various challenges but don’t let those bring you down”, he said. He said people must be honest to oneself to identify their challenges and overcome it on their own or with help from counselling. “No one is beyond help” he asserted “though the challenge in a person is compelling force with little room for escape.”
Secretary of the BPFD, Rev Dr Weyite Lohe and pastor and youth director of Town Baptist church were also present during the interaction. It was also informed that a seminar on the judicious use of money “Wiser in Money Matters” will be held on July 25 at Dimapur Ao Baptist Church. Dr DJ Das will be speaking at the seminar.
