Dimapur Police announce Odd-Even traffic system starting December 10

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 7 (MExN): To address the increasing traffic congestion due to the festive season and ongoing rehabilitation work on the Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Hotel Senti, Dimapur Police have announced the implementation of an Odd-Even traffic system.

The regulation will be enforced within the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) jurisdiction, starting on December 10 from 9 AM to 6 PM daily. The system will remain in effect for a period of one month or until the completion of the ROB rehabilitation work, whichever comes first. Under the Odd-Even system, vehicles will be allowed to ply based on the following guidelines:

On odd dates (i.e., 11th, 13th, 15th, etc.), only vehicles with registration numbers ending in odd digits (1, 3, 5, 7, or 9) will be permitted to travel. On even dates (i.e., 10th, 12th, 14th, etc.), only vehicles with registration numbers ending in even digits (0, 2, 4, 6, or 8) will be allowed on the road.

However, this restriction will not be enforced on Sundays, December 25 (Christmas Day), and January 1, 2025 (New Year’s Day).
Vehicles exempted from the Odd-Even rule include government vehicles include emergency service vehicles, school buses, and public transport, including both four-wheeler and two-wheeler taxis, with the exception of autorickshaws.

Dimapur Police have warned that violations of this order will lead to penalties under Sections 177 and 179 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. To ensure the smooth implementation of this initiative, the public has been urged to cooperate by minimizing unnecessary travel. It also recommended carpooling to avoid inconveniences.
