Dimapur Police arrest gang of interstate vehicle lifters

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 6 (MExN): Dimapur Police arrested three persons on October 5 on charges of vehicle lifting and attempt to murder. A press note from the PRO Dimapur Police informed that the three accused are part on an interstate vehicle lifter’s gang.  

According to the police, on October 5, the gang had hired a Mahindra Pick-up vehicle from Daboka, Assam in the pretext of running some errands in Nagaland. On reaching Dimapur at around 7:00pm, two members of the gang guided the driver and the vehicle towards Seithekema area and, in a secluded place, tried to stab the driver with a knife, police said.  

The driver was able to escape with minor injuries leaving behind the vehicle, managing to run into a house of a local resident. The matter was then reported to the police.  

Accordingly, alert was sounded and the vehicle was detained nearby at the Chumukedima Checkgate while two-gang members were trying to take the vehicle towards Kohima.  

Police informed that the “main handler” of the gang was also arrested from Pherima. Two of the arrested gang members were identified as Rohim Uddin and Kobir Ahmed, while the “handler” was identified as one Abdul Rahman. Dimapur Police informed that according to preliminary investigations, the handler assured the other two members a sum of Rs.50000/- to kill the driver and deliver the vehicle up to Kohima.  

The vehicle was to be transported to Manipur. A case has been registered and is under investigation at the Diphupar Police Station.
