Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): The Dimapur Police arrested several people from May 19-24 on charges of transporting illegal drugs and extortions.
On May 19, Dimapur Police personnel manning the Chumukedima check gate seized around 3080 capsules of banned Spasmo Proxyvon in illegal possession of one Apana Nsanlung of Peren, informed a press release from Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police/PRO, Dimapur. The person was arrested and charged for offences under the Drug & Cosmetics Act.
In a separate incident, personnel of C/9 NAP (IR) deployed under Dimapur Police while conducting foot patrol apprehended three persons who were allegedly extorting money from business establishments at New Market on May 22. Reportedly members of the banned NSCN (K), they have been identified as Kughalu Chophy, Vinoka Zhimomi, Ghileto Zhimomi, according to the PRO. The arrested persons have been charged with relevant sections of law and currently under investigation.
Meanwhile, on May 24, personnel of the Crime Branch (CID) intercepted a vehicle at Shokhuvi village area and seized approximately 180 kg of contraband ganja being transported by one Achan Muilung of Ukhrul, Manipur. A case has been registered for further investigation.
Further, the release informed that the Anti Extortion Team (AET) of Dimapur Police arrested one person on charges of extortion after he was found collecting illegal taxes from business establishments around Dhobinallah area on May 24. The person identified as Inato Assumi is reportedly a ‘Section Officer’ of the NSCN/GPRN (IM).
