Dimapur Police bust inter-state gang involved in vehicle theft, 8 arrested

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 19 (MExN): Dimapur Police have dismantled an inter-state gang implicated in drugging and stealing vehicles, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals from Assam, Manipur, and West Bengal. The operation also led to the recovery of two vehicles linked to the gang's activities.

A press release issued by the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur informed that the breakthrough came during a routine investigation into a missing person report filed at the East Police Station, which uncovered a sophisticated network of criminal activities spanning Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, and West Bengal.

According to the press release, the gang's modus operandi involved hiring commercial vehicles by posing as potential clients. Once aboard, gang members would befriend the drivers, offering them food items laced with drugs. This would incapacitate the drivers, allowing the gang to steal the vehicles while they were unconscious.

The mastermind behind the operation has been identified as Shymalendu Roy from West Bengal, who orchestrated the crimes through his network of gang members. Utilizing digital evidence gathered from technical surveillance, police were able to arrest two gang members from Manipur, four from Assam, and two from Dimapur.

The East Police Station team, led by Investigating Officer ASI Ikato Sema and supervised by ACP East Imkongsangba Jamir, successfully executed the operation.

In light of these events, the Dimapur Police has urged commercial vehicle drivers and owners to remain vigilant and report any instances of missing drivers or vehicles to the police without delay.
