
Dimapur, October 23 (MExN): The Dimapur Police has arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged assault of a Bachelor of Commerce student from Dimapur Government College (DGC) on October 10.
The Dimapur Police identified the trio as Phushito Yeptho (52 years), Akheto Shohe (48 years), and Vikiho Aye (37 years), all designated as ‘Leacy’ of NSCN-K (Khango).
They were duly identified by the victim and are currently in police custody, stated a press release from the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur.
According to the police, the case pertains to a written FIR (First Information Report) received at the Sub Urban Police Station on October 10 from the concerned student.
In the FIR, the student claimed that in the early hours of October 10, at around 3:50 AM, while he was on his way to participate in a marathon event, he was waylaid in the Thakur Bari area by three unknown assailants.
The assailants attacked him, stealing his phone and a bag with cash and personal items, before felling in a vehicle, the FIR stated.
Accordingly, a case was registered under the relevant sections of the law.
During the course of the investigation, through electronic surveillance and human intelligence, suspects were identified and placed under surveillance, the police said.
On October 22, after confirming with sources, an operation was conducted by the Sub Urban PS team, during which the three NSCN-K (Khango) cadres were arrested from different locations in and around Dimapur, it informed.
The vehicle used in the commission of the crime and the mobile phone that was snatched from the victim were all recovered and seized from their possession, it added.
On October 16, the Dimapur Government College Students' Council (DGCSC) while condemning the assault had urged the relevant agencies and departments to take serious measures to identify the culprits and ensure they are punished according to the law.
