Dimapur Police destroys seized narcotics worth over Rs 34 Crores

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 5 (MExN): The Drugs Disposal Committee (DDC) of the Police Commissionerate, Dimapur, carried out the pre-trial destruction of seized narcotic and psychotropic substances at the DMC Dumping Ground in Burma Camp, Dimapur, on December 5. The operation was led by Kevithuto Sophie, Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, who serves as the Chairman of the DDC.

A press release issued by the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur informed that the event was witnessed by a range of officials, including the Deputy Commissioners of Police from Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland districts, as well as the Superintendent of Police (Crime) from the PHQ, Kohima. Representatives from the administrations of Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland, along with various civil society groups, also observed the destruction process.

The narcotic substances destroyed were part of a total of 79 cases registered across various police stations in the Police Commissionerate of Dimapur. This destruction follows approval from the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dimapur, on 28th October 2024, under Section 52A of the NDPS Act 1985. The narcotics included a variety of drugs, including Brown Sugar, Heroin, Crystal Meth, and Opium, among others. The total estimated value of the destroyed drugs amounted to Rs 34, 82, 87, 425 (approximately Rs 34.83 crore).
