5 detained for circulation of fake news

Dimapur Police on May 16 said that the originator of the fake news about 20 people fleeing from Agri Expo quarantine centre in Dimapur has been traced.
ADCP Crime, PRO Dimapur Relo T Aye told The Morung Express that five persons have been detained for questioning by Diphupar Police Station on May 16 in this connection.
A female individual has admitted to composing the text message which later went viral on WhatsApp, he informed. She had reportedly received the unverified information from a chain of four other persons.
During the course of the investigation, it was found that many people have forwarded the fake news through various social media platforms without verifying its authenticity. The Dimapur Police appealed to all individuals to avoid using any form of media for dissemination of any information regarding COVID-19 without ascertaining the facts.
