Dimapur public to discuss Extortion and Rape

Dimapur, September 28 (MExN): Reflecting the current state of affairs in Nagaland, particularly in Dimapur, a public seminar on extortion, kidnappings and other criminal activities is to be held on October 1 organized by the Dimapur district administration and frontal civil society organizations.
Civil organizations including the Naga Council, Women Hoho, GBs’ Union, tribal ‘hohos,’ DCCI (Chamber of Commerce) and medicine dealers are collaborating with the district administration for the public seminar which is to be held at Ana-Ki Conference Hall, opposite old Tata parking in Dimapur.
The program will commence with an inaugural address by the Home Minister of Nagaland. The seminar will be conducted in two sessions. The topic for first session (10-10:45 AM) will discuss extortion, kidnapping and “anti-social menace” and their causes as well as discuss preventive laws and measures against the menaces.
The topic for the second session (1:15-2:00 PM) is the crime of rape, its causes and the preventive Laws and measures against the crime.
“The seminar will thoroughly debate over the two topics that has registered an alarming rise in and around Dimapur. The seminar will attempt to evolve a mechanism to stem the violence and suffering resulting from these social evils. A panel of experts consisting of five members drawn from a wide section of professionals will lead in the debate with each session to be moderated,” the Naga Council of Dimapur informed in a note today.
“A public resolution or recommendation based on the public discourse is expected to be framed and adopted in the House which shall be forwarded to the government through Deputy Commissioner Dimapur for further analysis by the concerned authorities and to implement with the hope that a semblance of rule of law prevails in the interest of all concerned,” the NGO said.  The Panel of Experts includes Dr. Norbert Noraho, Dr. Hesheto Chishi, Padmashree Sentila Yanger, Vanthungo Lotha and Pradeep Pareek.
The two sessions shall be moderated by Dr. Zelhou Keyho, Academic Dean of Oriental Theological Seminary and Dr. Anungla Aier, Department of Anthropology, Kohima Science College.
The seminar is open to all concerned members of public. The 5 MLAs of Dimapur district are special invitees to the seminar. However, the following organizations are requested to send delegates as indicated : Dimapur administration (5) and Dimapur Police (5), Naga Council (41), Women Hoho (20), GB Union Dimapur (20), DCCI (Chamber of Commerce)- 20, 19 presidents of tribal ‘hohos’ with 7 members each, NMDA (10), “business community” (FBO)- 20, DMC (5), Forum For Naga Reconciliation (5), Dimapur students (10), Pastors Fellowship (5), ANPSA (5), DCCF (5), Dimapur Bar Council (5), Dimapur Press Club (5), Marwari Community (5), Bengali Community (5), Muslim community (5), Gorkha (5), Kachari (5), Tibetan (5) and senior citizens (5).
Each organization is requested to present views and suggestions and is further requested to complete their participation in both sessions. “Considering the frequent beatings public has been subjected to from anti-social elements, we urge leaders from all listed frontal organizations, especially business community who have borne the brunt of it all not to remain mute spectators but to avail the platform and promote valuable wisdom and suggestions in order to tackle the problems collectively and successfully, and to build congenial, peaceful atmosphere for all to live and work together under secure environment at all times,” the Naga Council added.
