KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 29 (MExN): Nagaland's lone Rajya Sabha MP, K.G. Kenye on Friday sought immediate intervention of Northeast Frontier Railway authorities for improvement of Dimapur Railway Station.
Speaking at the Consultative Meeting of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and Members of Parliament representing the area served by Lumding Division on September 28 in the Conference Hall of General Manager NFR at Maligoan; Guwahati, Kenye said Dimapur Station cannot be neglected from infrastructures and other amenities as this Station not only serves both Nagaland and Manipur State but also parts of Assam.
He specifically raised the issue of lack of basic amenities and unhygienic condition of this station which has to be addressed without further delay. To his query why waiting shed at Platform No.2 could not be constructed till today, the NFR replied land encroachment was the main factor impeding the project.
While assuring the NFR to lend his assistance to solve land encroachment and other related issues, the MP requested the Chief Engineer of the Division to plan out an alternative for construction of the much needed Waiting Shed at PF No.2 as the land encroachment issue would take time in case the matter is lying with the court.
Kenye also demanded for construction of Rest Room for the passengers and installation of Solar Plant on the roof top. He also made an enquiry on the progress of the ongoing Dimapur (Dhansiri) to Zubza Railway project and sought for completion of the project within the stipulated time.
Besides improvement of infrastructures and amenities, the MP also suggested for adoption of Reservation policy in the Railway Recruitment which he felt local employees would have more advantage in serving better in their respective area of operation.
Kenye said NFR serves a very important region as it covers 8 states which is the biggest Division in the country surrounded by 5 countries and politically a strategic and hyper sensitive region from security point of view.
