In a tragic incident, a 53 year old woman was killed after she was hit by a speeding car on Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 6:00 AM when the deceased was talking a walk with another woman near Padumpukhuri village gate leading towards NH 29 four-lane.
A surveillance camera captured the footage of the horrific accident. The video shows the speeding car (Maruti Alto K 10) hitting the woman, who is then tossed onto a wall as a result of the impact. Eye witnesses said the car then sped on to hit a two-wheeler (scooty) before ramming onto the four-lane divider. The driver of the scooty, who fortunately could jump to safety on the nick of time, sustained only minor injuries.
There were two occupants in the ill-fated car along with the driver when the accident occurred. One of them also reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Dimapur police informed that the deceased has been identified as Madhu Mala Debbarma, wife of Mani Debbarma, a resident of Purana Bazaar and hailing from Tripura.
The accused driver, who has been identified as Titova Chishi (aged 38 years), a resident of Padumphukri and hailing from Zunheboto district is under police custody. A case has been registered and investigation is underway, the police informed.
