Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum expresses anguish over deplorable roads and bridges

Dimapur, November 11 (MExN): Expressing concern and anguish over the deplorable condition of roads and bridges in Dimapur, the Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) today stated that “roads in many stretches of Dimapur areas have been neglected for very long and are not even walkable. The roads have become worse than many village roads in rural areas.”

DDCF, President, Y Kikon and General Secretary, Richard Haolai in a press release stated that Dimapur being the commercial hub catering to the needs of people even from the neighboring states is left without proper roads and bridges “as if there exist no government or competent authority that cares.”

Therefore, the Forum requested the concerned authority and the department to take necessary steps to repair such roads at the earliest for the welfare of the people.

Taking serious note of the “snail speed” pace of work at the Dhansiri River Bridge connecting Walford and Purana Bazar, the Forum asked the government, “If a time limit has been set for the completion in the DPR? If “yes”, why is it not enforced? If “no”, how work has been allotted without time frame?”

The Forum added that timely completion of this bridge will ease the public from many hurdles and hardships.
Therefore, the DDCF requested the concerned department to ensure that the contractor completes the work at the earliest before the people of Dimapur take up the issue.

It also informed the government that “the patience of citizens is running out and situation may turn ugly if things are not done in time accordingly with regard to all developmental activities.”
