Dimapur: Rotary Club organises blood donation camp

Dimapur, July 3 (MExN): Rotary Club of Dimapur organised a blood donation camp in association with Blood Bank, District Hospital, Dimapur and Inner Wheel Club of Dimapur at Rotary Centre, Midland, on July 3.

According to a press release, the camp was organised on an appeal from Rotary International President Jennifer Jones and District Governor Dr Kushanava Pabi (RID 3240) to augment local blood bank supplies and also to create awareness among blood donors.

Inaugurating the camp, eminent physician and an active Rotarian Dr DR Sharma spoke about the myths connected with blood donation and said that ‘blood donation is good for health for an able donor.’

Dr T Temsu, Blood Bank in-charge Dimapur District,Hospital spoke about specific benefits of blood donation and said that there is a sense of well being and satisfaction after performing a ‘noble job’ of blood donation which improves mental health and immunity.

Second benefit is that the blood donated is replenished immediately by the body system and one can donate blood again after 90 days, he said, while maintaining that since red blood cells in the body die after 120 days, “Instead of wastage, we can save someone's life by donating blood.”

Another benefit, he added, is that blood donation is an investment. “One can get blood from the blood bank by producing blood donors’ certificate as and when you need it,” he said. The Government of Nagaland also honours every blood donor with a certificate and a badge, the release stated.

Rotarian Manish Jain speaking on the occasion requested all able bodied persons not to fear while donating blood as blood donation in such camps is always handled by fully trained and efficient paramedical staff of the District Blood Bank.

Project Chairman, Rtn Nikhil Jain informed at the end of the camp that a total of 27 units of blood were collected by 27 donors.

Club Secretary Rtn Prashant Agarwal thanked Dr Temsu, Blood Bank Paramedics, Donors, Inner wheel members and all the club members for making the blood donation camp project successful, the release stated.
