Dimapur STF reviews restriction status of single-use plastic

Dimapur, January 23 (MExN): A meeting of the Special Task Force (STF) for restricting plastic use was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Dimapur on January 23.


The meeting was held to review the status of restriction of single-use plastic in the district. As per a press release issued by DC Dimapur, Anoop Khinchi, IAS, the STF deliberated at length on its implementation. The house reviewed on the status of ban on single use plastic in Chümoukedima, Niuland and Medziphema. 


The DC informed the house that penalties would be imposed upon violators: First-time offence – Rs 1000, second-time offence – Rs 2000, third-time offence – cancellation of trade license (Dimapur Municipal Council to levy necessary fines). 


It resolved to conduct IEC activities in schools and colleges to generate awareness on environmentally sustainable practices including social media campaign. 


It also concurred to spread awareness and sensitization amongst the public regarding ban on all single-use plastics including Polythene, Nylon, Thermocol, Plastic cutlery, Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC), Poly styrene and Poly propylene (PP). 


The release further said that plastic ban component will be integrated under "Swachhta Hi Seva." The house discussed arrangements for transport of segregated plastic waste to PWD for incorporation in construction of roads, etc.

 
The DC directed the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to identify plastic collection points.
