Dimapur, January 23 (MExN): The District Level Launch of Surakshit Matriva Aashwashan (SUMAN) notified facilities and orientation on gestational diabetes mellitus was held in Chief Medical Officer’s Office Conference Hall, Dimapur on January 22. 

Dr Rongsennungla, DPO, RCH-UIP reoriented on SUMAN – an initiative for zero preventable maternal and newborn death through responsive quality healthcare system and providing care with dignity and respect. She highlighted the components of the initiative and also the guarantee service packages entitled through this initiative. She urged the health workers to involve the community in this initiative so that the communities may take ownership and sustain the programme.

To ensure SUMAN packages are implemented efficiently in the district, SUMAN notified health facilities in the district are encouraged to achieve National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification. Imlinoba Changkiri, DPM (QA) highlighted the various elements required to fulfill for NQAS Certification. 

Esther, DPM, NHM emphasized on the importance of documenting at least upto 4 ANC checkups for pregnant women in the district. She urged the health workers to continuously spread the importance of ANC checkup and also track all pregnant women in their respective jurisdiction especially those pregnant women with High Risk Pregnancy.

Dr Yanrenthung Jami, Sr Specialist District hospital Dimapur oriented the participants on Gestational Diabetes Mellitus which is a condition where a woman without diabetes develops high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. He also highlighted the screening protocol, management, and guidelines of gestational diabetes mellitus.

Dr T Temsu Lkr, Chief Medical Officer Dimapur also encourage the participants to work together and give their best to the service of the community. He further assured that any grievance and issues shared by them will be promptly looked into. 
The programme began with a mass prayer lead by Dr Rongsennungla to invoke the Lord’s blessing for all health activities throughout the year.
