DIMAPUR, MAY 31 (MExN): The Dimapur Watsu Telongjem on Saturday expressed deep concern over the allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Reny Wilfred, a senior government official, by female employees of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN).
In a statement, the women’s organisation said these were not isolated accusations, noting that similar complaints had been raised against Wilfred in the past. “It is troubling that despite serious allegations in the past, Wilfred continued to hold a position of authority,” it said.
Terming sexual harassment and assault as acts of violence and control, the orgnisation said repeated allegations against a senior official sent a “chilling message,” and stressed that such abuse of power must be addressed at the earliest. “Power must never become a shield for predatory behaviour,” the statement said.
Lauding the courage of those who came forward, the organisation said their voices “must be heard, believed, and acted upon.” “No one should have to suffer in silence or fear retaliation for seeking justice. Dimapur Watsu Telongjem stands with the survivors and demands a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations,” it said. The body also appreciated the Nagaland State Commission for Women for initiating the police complaint and welcomed the government's decision to suspend Wilfred from service.
It urged the government to ensure a full, transparent disciplinary process and to hold the official accountable under the law. “Continued inaction only perpetuates harm and enables further abuse. It is time to end the culture of silence,” the statement added.
