‘Men and women
are equal partners’
Addressing the gathering mostly comprising of weavers and entrepreneurs, chairman of NHHDC Ltd, Dimapur Maithou Krose in his speech said women are not lacking in most of the profession but there is more to be done for their empowerment and appreciated that women are moving in a very fast phase.
Denouncing domestic violence, Krose said that men and women are equal partners for building societies and therefore, it is important to create the right atmosphere for safety. He called for a change of attitude towards looking at women as a sex object.
“Traditionally we have different roles but women are not inferior,” he said adding that “reservation is a discriminatory remark against fair competition.”
Also addressing the weavers, he encouraged them to be aware of Geographical Indication and Intellectual Property Rights.
‘Build your own trademark’
The guest of honour, Albert L Gangte, SIDBI, Dimapur Branch said that for any society to achieve a greater height, every woman has a role to play.
Based on his experience, Gangte cautioned that people are good in making duplicate of products therefore it is important to create brand or trademark. “Authenticity of the product is lost once it is sent out to other places. The image on the product does not display the hard work and originality because others own the label. Make sure you have and own the trademark and create your own product identity,” he urged.
To the aspiring entrepreneurs, Gangte said “do not try to be influenced by others who are already successful. Be motivated by your passion, talent and market and not by profit.”
