Dimapur district bagged the coveted champion title in both boys and girls category of the State Level Inter High School Sepaktakraw Tournament which concluded today under the aegis of the Department of Youth Resources & Sports at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
Niuland district also bagged second place in both boys and girls category. Mokokchung and Phek district has been declared as the joint third position in girl’s category. Noklak and Mon district were joint third position in boy’s category.
Megolhu Dolie, Additional Director, Youth Resources & Sports graced the closing programme and gave away prize to the winners.
Nagaland produces 15 international players
Dolie said that Sepaktakraw was originated in Malaysia. It is one of the most popular games in South East Asia.
In Nagaland, he said, Sepaktakraw is not a new game as the Department of Youth Resources & Sports has established a state hostel in Dimapur in 2004 with a capacity of 18 seats. “This state sports hostel has produced more than 100 national players in different categories- Sub Junior, junior and senior level,” he said adding that it has produced 15 international players.
Dolie thanked coaches Holshe Khrieo and Puleno Neikha for their great achievement.
Further, he challenged the Sepaktakraw players to give their best and continue to bring laurel to the state and the country.
Earlier, Jakedovo Chase, Deputy Director, Youth Resources & Sports chaired the closing ceremony while vote of thanks was proposed by Nyuvitho Nyuthe, Assistant Director, Youth Resources & Sports. The programme concluded with thanksgiving prayer by Khrieneiu Metha, Pastor, Peniel CRC.
Mentionably, 150 players from 16 districts of Nagaland joined the tournament.
