Dimapur: Yemhi Memorial College students advised not to limit to govt jobs

Dimapur, November 7 (MExN): Yemhi Memorial College observed its 1st Annual Yemhi Cultural and Literary Fest on November 5 at the college premises with E Kikon, President, Naga Council Dimapur and Piholi, Chairperson, Governing Body, YMC, as the special guests for the inaugural and closing functions respectively.

Speaking on the theme, ‘Share our similarities, celebrate our differences,’ E Kikon encouraged the students to practice, preserve and  nourish the ‘assets’ given to them by their ancestors; to evolve with the time but to always be rooted in their culture; and be the connecting generation of the past and present.

According to a press release received here on Monday, he advised the students to explore the many ventures and options provided to them and not to limit themselves to government jobs while adding that students should not only nourish themselves with knowledge but should also polish their attitudes and personalities.

The speaker is also said to have appreciated the college’s initiative of making cultural activities part of their educational curriculum.

During the inaugural function which was chaired by Ngaichin Singson, HoD, Department of Education, Mongmeth Konyak, Advisor EU pronounced the invocation and Principal Dr Kaba Daniel delivered the welcome address. Toyeto Chishi,Vice- Principal, also addressed the many educational activities and  other related initiatives undertaken by the college, it said.

Meanwhile, closing the event, Piholi, Chairperson, Governing Body, YMC, exhorted the students to celebrate and appreciate our diverse customs and practices. She also encouraged the students to create a Nagaland that stands as one mighty nation.

The highlights of the programme were presentation of ‘Ayekuzu le’ by Traditional Tribal Cultural Club, YMC; special appearance by Alumni namely, Hanluchi Yimkhiung, Soutin Singson and Hopong Naga; and awarding of Yemhi Educational Scholarship and Rev Shihoto Sponsorship. The day was also marked by cultural competitions like fire making, yodeling and display of cultural attires. There were also literary competitions like essay writing, extempore speech, debate, drama and drawing.

Liza Swu, Cultural Secretary, YMCSC delivered the vote of thanks and the programme ended with a benediction pronounced by Likivu H Jimo, the release stated.
