“I do not wish that we forget our heritage, the oneness that we have in Christ. Only if we go back to the roots, only then we should be able to say all these are only temporary. Whatever disagreements our people might have, solutions should be there, it should not make us enemies,” he appealed.
He called for the Nagas to ‘communicate, have dialogue, and create opportunities to bring solutions to all the existing problems.’
“I appeal to my Southern Angami brothers and so also to my own Mao communities that we must open up ways so that we will be able to reach out to each other… If there is possibilities we will discuss, through dialogue we should be able to overcome all these,” he urged.
‘Nagas must unite’
Acknowledging the pioneers who have settled in Dimapur, Dr Lorho said that ttraditionally Dimapur was not ours. “But people came together, they found love in each other, they found meaning in interacting and form a community and now today our theme also says that ‘celebrating community,’ it is so relevant, it such a nice thing,” he remarked.
Reiterating that Nagas are going through a very difficult times, he said, “Having regconised that we are going through difficult times, is it now times for us to once again, go back to our pyramid ways of a living and thinking that we have to live within our own boundaries back to the head hunting days.’
“We may not physically hunt one another’s head but I think sometimes our attitude towards one another is narrowed down to such lines. It gives us a very precarious future,” he observed.
Further, he said, “The Nagas must unite and we must live life of solidarity and continue sharing those love even with those outside our own Naga community as well.” He added, “So unless we Nagas show ourselves to be hospitable people, people who love and who can share, I think they will take a very wrong message to outside to our own areas.”
On the celebration of New Year, he said ‘whatever is old will pass away with the New Year and whatever new will come with the New Year as we say. Both are looking towards the New.’
“Let us build up our hopes, our future on the things that God provides,” he urged adding that ‘it is only because we have Christ, the perfect binding force amongst all Nagas that enable us to live together.’ He observed that many times when we go back to our own villages, we see our own fences, within villages, within neighbouring communities, within villages and tribe there are fences. “It is very sad that it happens but today because we are all one in Christ, I think we must continue to forget all those fences and live together as one,” he added.
