In a proactive initiative aimed at enhancing preparedness and response to emergencies, the Office of the District Commandant and Home Guards, Civil Defence, and State Disaster Response Force organised a one-day Disaster Management Training and Awareness Programme in Wokha on March 7. The training programme was conducted at the office of the Commandant and Home Guards.
118 National Cadet Corps (NCC) members from five schools in the region, including Bailey Baptist College, Government Higher Secondary School, Mount Tiyi College, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, and Isaiah Ability School participated and was provided with comprehensive training sessions covering vital skills such as bandaging techniques, rope knotting, cardiopulmonary bypass resuscitation (CPR), diverse rescue methods, and sprain and injury management.

Notably, the training accommodated both male and female participants, with 53 females and 65 males among the NCC trainees.
Echung Konyak, Company Commandant of Home Guards, Civil Defence Wokha, said that the district authorities’ commitment to empowering youth with safety measures and disaster management skills. “Such initiatives aims to foster a culture of preparedness and swift response among the youth, enabling them to play an active role in managing emergencies within the region and by adopting such proactive measures, it empowers the youth to actively contribute to disaster management efforts during emergencies,” he added.
