
Kohima, October 17 (MExN): Along with the rest of the world, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department celebrated the International day for Disaster Risk Reduction on the October 13 in Kohima.
A brief formal programme was held at the Heritage wherein the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman District Disaster Management Authority, Shanavas C, addressed the gathering and the Secretary NSDMA, Lhouchalie Viya, gave the inaugural address.
Students from ten schools namely G Rio, Dainty Buds, Mewi, Government Middle school PWD, Government school Daklane, Coraggio, Vineyard, RDNUMS and Vinyuzo were invited to play a game called ‘Mithun Caravan,’ according to a press release from the NSDMA Media Cell.
Thejangulie Zao, Asst Manager (Projects & Resources) gave an introduction to the Mithun Caravan game and the brief programme was chaired by Kevisede Usuo, Section Assistant, NSDMA.
According to the release, the Mithun Caravan is an adopted version of the Japanese Iza Kaeru Caravan by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department. Mithun Caravan is a disaster prevention education event.
In this event, children learn about disaster prevention while playing with families and friends. This is played by two teams or more with a maximum of 10 (ten) players on each side, the target group being Classes 3 and 4 students or may be conducted also for other age group. The objective of the game is to enhance the capacity of the children through some interesting set of games. This is to understand the concept of Disaster Risk Reduction by making disaster prevention activities more familiar and more enjoyable, the release stated.
