‘Discipline essential ingredient to perform in sports’

44th Patkai Christian College Annual Sports Week kicks-off

Patkai, October 24 (MExN): Discipline is vital and an essential ingredient to perform in sports, like in all other fields and students need to train themselves to be disciplined in life, said Joseph Keishing, the Commandant 173 Battalion CRPF.

He was addressing a gathering of more than thousand students and faculties at the inaugural ceremony of the 44th Annual Sports Week of Patkai Christian College (Auonomous) organised at the college campus, here today. It will conclude on Saturday.

Emphasizing on the significance of discipline and hardwork in life, Keishing urged the youth to be diligent and not to give up half way for the works they undertake.

‘Any works undertaken need to reach its finishing lines and should be fought to the best of one's ability and not surrender to hardships, which otherwise is an effort wasted,’ the Commandant added.

Stating that the Northeasterners are hard working but also are idle at times, he maintained that often they are thrilled and empowered at the beginning of any tasks, but due to lack of consistency their enthusiasm eventually fades.

It needs to be corrected by welcoming a disciplined and motivated life, Keishing stressed. The Commandant on behalf of his unit also gifted the college games and sports utilities and also invited the students to visit their camp and study the way of life and learn to inculcate the power of self restraint.

Principal of the college, Husazu Epao welcoming the chief guest also exhorted the students to exhibit sportsmanship spirit in all the sports activities. Games and sports secretary of the SUPCC, Nawang Wanghra also spoke on the occasion.

According to the reportage of the event by the Patkai Mass Communication Studies, earlier the sports week was officially declared open with lighting of the torch and kicking of the football by the chief guest.

Various games and sports will be played during the sports week as the students divided into four houses - Warriors, Lakers, Mavericks and Rockets – compete for the overall champions, besides individual events.

It will feature event like volleyball, football, basketball, badminton, athletics and so on.
