As concerned citizens of Eastern Nagaland we would like to share some of our thoughts on the attitude of our Naga brothers towards the Eastern Nagas. The State Govt. and various Naga civil societies often talk about unity but in reality we only see discrimination against. It is painful to note that many complaints and allegations and prejudices against the Eastern Nagas have been levelled against Mr. Keron a good citizen of Eastern Nagaland at the backdrop Search Committee’s recommendation for the post of Chairmanship. Thanks to you all for bringing into the knowledge of his Excellency the Governor and Hon’ble Chief Minister that you don’t want Eastern Nagas to be a part of present Nagaland. Here I would like to mention comparative list of NPSC Chairman and Members since 1966-2012 (46 Years):
NPSC Chairmanship
1. Ao 2 Terms
2. Angami 2 Terms
3. Sema 2 Terms
4. Non-Nagas 12 Terms
5. Six Tribes (ENPO) Nil
NPSC Members
1. Kuki 1 Term
2. Ao 4 Terms
3. Angami 4 Terms
4. Lotha 2 Terms
5. Sema Terms
6. Chakhesang 2 Terms
7. Rengma 1 Term
8. Sangtam (ENPO) 1 Term
9. Konyak (ENPO) 2 Terms
10. Phom (ENPO) 1 Term
11. Yimchunger (ENPO) 1 Term
12. Chang (ENPO) Nil
13. Khiamniungan (ENPO) Nil
Basing on the above comparative statement, we would to question the State Govt. and the so called advanced tribes that are the rules and regulation framed by the government applicable only to the Eastern Nagas only when such rules or criteria’s were not followed up when people belonging to forward tribes were to be Chairman or Member of NPSC ? We regret having joined this present Nagaland State. We feel that it would have been much better if we remained under NEFA and leave the other Nagas who were under Assam and Minapur State as it was. It is painful to note that even when the state government went for Special Recruitment Drive (SRD) for the post of EAC particularly for less represented tribes, our fellow Naga brothers stood against tooth and nail, and today they don’t want Eastern Naga to hold the post of chairman (NPSC). Even a respectable Naga Hoho leader circulated an SMS that Eastern Nagas should not be given the chance to hold the Chairman of NPSC but it should be from Central Nagaland. With such motive why do you talk about Naga unity? Its time our Naga brothers openly come out and say that you don’t want Eastern Nagas and pass a resolution to support the demand of ENPO for a Frontier Nagaland , so that you may not come across such kind of hindrance from the Eastern Nagas in the near future. We feel mingling with the so called Central Nagas or advanced tribes would be a “stumbling block” for them. Now as the matter is clear we hope that His Excellency the Governor and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland shall expedite the demand for a frontier Nagaland at the earliest, so that Nagas can live peacefully as brothers in separate state without jeopardising the right of others.
