District admin evicts army occupation of private land

Dimapur, July 4 (MExN): The Dimapur district administration today evicted Army occupation on a private land belonging to one Late. S. B Rana near Lomithi colony. The Army had illegally been occupying eight bhigas of private land. Advocate Hukavi Sema who has been pursuing the case on behalf of the petitioner, Late. S. B Rana, said that in late 1989, his client had filed a case against Army occupation of his land in the high court. The court accordingly gave the ruling in favour of the petitioner but the Army repealed and was given extension till 2003. Similarly the Army repealed again in 2003. However, the advocate said that the court in February this year gave Army orders to evacuate the petitioner’s land but here again the Army asked for extension till June 3.  

Accordingly, the district administration went ahead with the demolition irking Army personnel who were present there during eviction. The advocate said that the army had illegally being occupying the land causing harassment to the patta holder, who is an ordinary citizen. 

Over the past few months the Army has been evicted in several areas around Dimapur over illegal occupation and encroachment. The eviction was carried out in the presence of the SDO (civil), Revenue Officer, surveyors and DBs.
