District hospital Phek gets new RDC, eye OT

Phek, January 26 (MExN): Minister for Health and Family Welfare Kuzholuzo Nienu on January 25, 2011 inaugurated the newly constructed Regional Diagnostic Centre (RDC) and Eye OT at the district hospital Phek.
Gracing the inaugural function, the minister urged the public to make the most of the facilities made available in the newly commissioned establishments. The RDC in Phek replete with X-ray, Ultra sound, Blood Analyser, Tread mill, etc is the sixth one in the state after Mon, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Wokha.
Highlighting the progress made by the department in the recent past, the minister pointed out that the state has been granted Nursing Institute, Para-medical institute and Medical institute by the centre to better health services. He also informed that the centre has approved hospital upgradation for the Kiphire and Phek district and that works would be taken up very soon.

He also credited the positive contributions made by the NGO’s, churches and the public in reversing the prevalence ratio of HIV/AIDS in the state. ‘From the second position in HIV prevalence in the country, the state has come down to fourth place with current ratio of 0.84%,’ the minister informed. The minister complimented all department officials and officials under LFA for the achievement stating, ‘the positive contribution has borne fruit’.
It may be mentioned here that surveys conducted by national media on health services has rated Nagaland as the second and third best performers in primary health services for two consecutive years in 2008 and 2010.
The minister encouraged the officers and staffs of the department to continue rendering their services to the people to take primary health services forward even in the years to come.
Also speaking, Commissioner and Secretary, Menukhol John sought support of the public in bettering performance in total immunization programe for children 0 o 5 years and complete anti-natal care for mothers in the district. Terming the present 44% as too low, he also appealed to the department officials to up performance. He also sought the participation and support of the people of Phek stating, ‘the joint venture of department and public has seen positive results in various areas in some districts’.
The minister was accompanied by Director, H&FW, Dr L Nakhro and Dr Imtitemjen and host of officers from the department, Deputy Commissioner Phek, Mikha Lomi, Ex-MLAs Vejoi Vero, Chekhutso, NPF Phek division president, Chivotso Nienu, NPF general secretary central, Boshi and host of other dignitaries.
