Kesonyu Yhome (IAS), deputy commissioner, Kiphire as chief guest, inaugurated the district legal service authority complex at Kiphire today.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration, Kesonyu Yhome said, “Kiphire citizens need not go to Tuensang or Kohima to avail legal help as it has reached the doorstep of each household.” He also said, “Protection of political, economic and social right of each citizen is the duty of the constitution. With the introduction of free legal service to the remotest part of the country the duties of constitution is fulfilled.” Appreciating the Nagaland State Legal Service Authority for their tireless effort to make the legal service functional to the citizens, the DC said, “gathering may not be very big, programme may be humble but the vision and the initiative of the Nagaland State Legal Service Authority is very huge and justice to doorstep of citizens is delivered.”
Speaking at the programme, Mayang Lima, Member secretary Nagaland State Legal Service Authority said that one of the major developments of India in legal scenario today is the shift in the concept of legal service from court annexure and legal based service to a need based para legal volunteer.” He also said that in a country where law governs everything and almost nothing is outside the preview of the law, common people are deprived many a times. “Therefore, to let justice accessible to all citizens the legal service is inaugurating today and this will help the citizens to avail free legal help with the help of Para Legal Volunteers (PVL),” Mayang Lima added.
He also said that the front office of the complex will be contemplating with customary law and not contradicting with each other for social justice and added that meeting, seminar and awareness programme on legal sector will be held from time to time so that the people may know more of legal service available.
Levi Keor, Executive Secretary, USSC who also spoke on the occasion expressed gratitude to the Nagaland State Legal Service Authority for taking initiative to establish the office at Kiphire. Keor also appealed the lawyers to educate the people to know ones duties as well while pursing the rights because “Nagas as a whole know how to claim ones right failing to perform ones duties,” he added. Later after the programme, seminar on consumer protection, MNERGA, Juvenile justice act, Para Legal rights was held with the college students, office staffs and citizens.
