District level meeting on public health programmes in Dimapur

Dimapur, September 14 (MExN): The second quarterly meeting of National TB Elimination Program (NTEP), National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) and District Aids Prevention and Control Committee (DAPCC) was convened on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan.

According to a report from the DIPR, in the meeting, DC Soundararajan lauded the medical department for actively implementing and striving to achieve the target objectives of the three programmes with all mechanisms and infrastructures set in place. The DC impressed upon the health workers to give more focus on awareness programmes and sensitize the people so that the efforts put in towards setting up infrastructure would not go to waste. 

He also said that Dimapur district is continuing with the smoke-free district headquarters campaign, and advised the officials of NTCP to apprise Head of Departments of the various measures to be put in place in order to make offices smoke-free. Acknowledging the important role of churches for creating community awareness, the DC advised also advised the implementing agencies to capitalise on the pro- active church members and take the programmes forward.

Further, the DC informed that from the district administration, the SDO (C) Development and EAC development would be the nodal officers for all the 3 programmes.

Meanwhile, Dimapur Chief Medical Officer Dr Moatemjen explained in brief about the NTEP, NTCP and DAPCC while the objectives of TB Forum were highlighted by an official of the department, the DIPR report stated.

Objectives of smoke-free district headquarters campaign and activities report was presented by District Nodal Officer for NTCP Dr Reyosalu Kase while District Programme Officer, DAPCC Dimapur briefed on the objectives of New India @75 and also presented on the HIV& AIDS scenario in the district.

Other highlights of the program included testimonials by cured patients and felicitation to Maova village Dimapur by DC Dimapur for adopting tobacco-free village guidelines of NTCP, the DIPR informed.

Representatives from Christian Forum and All Nagaland Private School Association also spoke in the meeting and noted that participation of organisations and NGOs are required for tackling any problem that exists in a society, it added.
