Longleng, February 12 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Longleng and KVK Longleng organized a district level training for farmers of Tamlu block at KVK Traing hall, Tamlu block on February 6.
The programme targeted the women farmers and youth leaders from different villages so that new farming technologies can be introduced in their respective villages as well as popularizes farming as a passion among the youths.
The resource person for the training was Ajanu, PA KVK Longleng specialized in food processing technology. The training was focused on Post-harvest management of horticultural crops because many fruits and vegetables go wasted without consumption or marketing.
The resource person spoke on how many fruits, vegetables and spices go wasted in Longleng district due to lack of cold strorage unit as well as lack of knowledge in post-harvest technologies. She encouraged the women participants to start small scale food processing at their homes during the leisure hours so that surplus production can be converted to processed food which can be consumed at their home or can be easily sold in the local market. She taught how surplus fruits and vegetables or wild fruits can be preserved and processed into pickles, jam, jelly, chips etc. without letting them rot away in the field. She spoke on how processed food fetches good return if done in commercial scale as the taste and quality is enhanced and it can be preserved for longer period of time as compared to fresh fruits and vegetable.
Altogether 16 farmers participated in the programme.
