District Tobacco Control Cell Tuensang holds meeting

Tuensang, May 30 (MExN): District Level Co-Ordination Committee Meeting on District Tobacco Control Cell Tuensang was held at DC conference hall on May 30.

A DIPR report stated that SP Tuensang, Kanchan Kumar Kandpal, IPS briefed the members about COTPA Act 2003. To successfully implement the Act, the SP said, “Schools, NGOs, and all the stakeholders should play an important role in fighting against the menace, with collective responsibility and proper strategy.” He added that the police department is always at the forefront in fighting against all social evil.

ADC Tuensang, ThungchanbemoTungoe said that this year's World Tobacco Day theme is ‘We Need Food, not Tobacco’ to educate tobacco farmers about alternative crop production. He encouraged all to join hands together to fight against the tobacco menace and expressed the need to spread awareness in colleges, schools, and churches about the harms of tobacco.

A discussion was also held to strengthen COTPA Act 2003 sec. 6 (A&B) and tobacco-free schools to tobacco-free homes. The programme was chaired by Dr Aoyanger, Jr Dental Specialist at DTCC Tuensang. Highlights of DTCC activities were delivered by Sentilong Longchar, District Consultant DTCC Tuensang.

Certificates for Tobacco Free Schools were given to Baptist Thangyem Hr Sec School, Baptist High School Longkhim, ANM School of Nursing, GPS DC Hill, GMS Post Office, and Bethesda School.
