Season Star Club, Ungma wins Best Youth Club Award 2016-17
Mokokchung, December 3 (MExN): Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Mokokchung conducted District Youth Convention at Youth Hostel Hall, Mokokchung on December 2. Around 100 youth participated in the convention, which aimed to promote purposeful interaction among the youth on socially relevant issues, sensitize them to find solution of critical socio- economic and national development issues with special reference to role of youths, and to provide an opportunity to youth for future road map of their involvement in nation building activities.
The chief guest of the function, Libemo Jami, DYRO, Mokokchung exhorted the youth to positively participate in social issues and contribute towards nation building purposes, informed a press release from John Makhabo, DYC, NYK, Mokokchung. He called upon the youth to be sensitive to the programmes of Government, which need active cooperation, team work as those will lead to youth empowerment and productive youth life.
Further, the chief guest appealed to the youth to be agents of change in the society by thinking globally and acting locally. He also stressed that the youth and Youth Clubs need to be sensitive towards environment protection and promotion. Libemo reiterated that every youth should work towards plastic free society by discouraging people to use plastics.
In the keynote address, John Makhabo, DYC, NYK, Mokokchung highlighted the aims and objectives of NYK in channelizing and harnessing youth potentials towards nation building activities. He spoke on various schemes being undertaken by the department. He appealed to the youth clubs to open bank account for their own interest as the Government of India has introduced Public Fund Management System (PFMS) through which the Government is asked to transfer schemes directly to beneficiaries without cheques. “This will bring transparency in accounting system and seal loopholes to corruption,” he said.
John further lamented that in certain departments people are against this practice. He asked the youth to dedicate themselves for the development of their own villages. “The sacrifices of the youth can only bring about the holistic rural development,” he stated, adding Youth Clubs are stakeholders for development.
Maintaining that government alone cannot bring about development, he said, it needs the active participation and wholehearted support of Youth Clubs. He appealed to the youth to be professional in their approaches in whatever they do. In this competitive world, only the best survives and the rest are left out, he stated.
On the occasion, Best Youth Club Award 2016-17 was given to Season Star Club, Ungma. The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/- and citation. Winners of essay/painting competition on Swachh Sankalp Se Swachh Siddhi were also given awards. Cultural Clubs from Logkhum and Ungma performed at the event.
