DLSAs across state create awareness on Child Labour

Dimapur, June 14 (MExN): District Legal Services Authorities across Nagaland observed World Day Against Child Labour on June 13 to promote Legal awareness, highlighting the various provisions and amendments in Child labour Laws.  

Child rights and protection were sensitized to the participants and the National Legal Services Authority Schemes of “Child friendly Legal Services to Children and their protection” was also presented to emphasize the need to create awareness and protect the victim of Child Labour.  

According to a press release, the programmes were organized focusing on targeted groups and vulnerable sections of the society against the Child Labour to discourage the Child Labour practice. Representatives from various NGOs, social organizations, schools, colleges, Government departments and stake holders participated in the programme.  

In Tuensang, the legal awareness programme was held at St. Josephs School under the theme “End Child Labour in supply chain, it’s everyone’s business!!!”  

The Secretary, Tuensang DLSA, N. Kano illustrated on the topic “Child Labour”. A welcome address by the Principal, St. Josephs School, Tuensang was followed by Legal Literacy on the topic “Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 – POCSO Act”. National Legal Services Authority Schemes: “Child friendly Legal Services to Children and their protection” was introduced and illustrated by Cheliam, Legal Aid Counsel, Tuensang DLSA.  

Longleng DLSA observed the Anti Child Labour day at the Convention hall, PBCA Hall, Longleng. A short speech was given by Victo Sema, Chief Judicial Magistrate & Secretary, Longleng DLSA. Participants were sensitized on the topics of Juvenile Justice Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012. The resource persons were Abraham, Assistant Public Prosecutor, Longleng and Vezokho Nyekha, Legal cum Probation officer, DCPU, Longleng.  

In Wokha, the Wokha DLSA organized a Legal awareness programme, observing the Child Labour day along with the Labour Departments, Chairman of colonies, Lotha Hoho, ELOE Hoho, Police personnel, Gaun Buras, Church Leaders and student body leaders.

The Peren DLSA observed the World Day Against Child Labour with school students at Peren town. Somet Chang, Civil judge (Jr.) & Secretary, Peren DLSA along with Panel lawyers and PLVs provided Legal Literacy on the topic NALSA 2015 Scheme “Child friendly Legal Services to Children and their protection”.  

In Dimapur, World Day Against Child Labour was observed at Government Higher Secondary School, Medziphema Town under the theme “End Child Labour in supply chain, its everyone’s business”.  

Resource persons were Glory Sema, Panel Lawyer, Dimapur DLSA, Vimeno K.Nakhro, Panel Lawyer, Dimapur DLSA and Kekhriele-ii Mezhii, Panel Lawyer, Dimapur DLSA. The programme ended with a signature campaign against child labour.
