Dimapur, December 10 (MExN): Along with ith the rest of the world, District Legal Services Authorities in Nagaland celebrated Human Rights Day on December 10 across the state.
DIMAPUR: The Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) in collaboration with Human Rights Organization and Childline, Dimapur observed the day at Imkonglenden Colony, Dimapur.
Chuba, Panel Lawyer DDLSA shared the objective of Legal Services, Senti Panel Lawyer DDLSA and Tiamoa Tzudir, Human Rights Organization spoke on Human Rights and Vimenuo, Panel Lawyer highlighted the NSLSA's Schemes. Summing up the program, Ajongba Imchen, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dimapur and Secretary DDLSA, said that now is the time to know our rights and fight for it. Vote of thanks was delivered by Chairman, Imkonglenden colony. The program was chaired by Dzuvinuo, Panel Lawyer DDLSA.
KOHIMA: Kohima District Legal Services Authority observed the Human Rights Day at Sechü Zubza.
Highlighting a brief history about Human Rights Day and a gist of Legal Services Authority, Nulhuvolu Rhakho, Panel Lawyer KDLSA informed that the Human Rights Day was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly adoption and proclamation on December 10, 1948 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights".
Nulhuvolu Rhakho apprised that the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987 was enacted to constitute Legal Services Authorities to provide free and competent legal services to the downtrodden and weaker sections of the society and to organize Lok Adalats on the basis of equal opportunity.
Speaking on the topic Human Rights, Zasitsolie Beio, Panel Lawyer NSLSA said that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a milestone document that proclaimed the rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political opinion, national origin, property, birth or other status.
Pointing out that Human Rights are important in the relationships that exist between individuals and the government, Beio said however Human Rights means that this power is limited and states have to look after the basic needs of the people and protect their freedom. He also spoke on right to equality, right to freedom, cultural & educational rights etc.
Dietholenuo, PLV KDLSA pronounced vote of thanks and welcome address was delivered by Mhasikhoto Zhunyu, VCC Sechü Zubza.
MOKOKCHUNG: Mokokchung District Legal Services Authroity observed International Human Rights Day putting billboards at Law College, Mokokchung and Tuli Town.
WOKHA: Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) commemorated the Human Rights Day with village functionaries of Wozhuro Range at Wozhuro Community hall.
Gracy Ezung, Retainer Lawyer WDLSA delivered keynote address and significance of the day, while Yanbemo, Chairman Phiro Village presented a short speech.
Renbonthung Tsanglao, Panel Lawyer WDLSA spoke on NALSA Poverty Alleviation Scheme 2015, Meribemo Lotha, Panel Lawyer WDLSA spoke on Village Council Act 1978 and Shanchobeni P. Lotha, Panel Lawyer WDLSA spoke on Right to Information Act 2005 and Right to Education Act.
ZUNHEBOTO: Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) observed International Day of Human Rights cum Advent Christmas with the inmates and staff of District Jail Zunheboto.
Speaking as the resource person, Atoka Achumi Secretary ZDLSA spoke on the significance of Human Rights Day and its history.
He dwelled upon relevant provisions in the Constitution and statutes such as the Human Rights Act enacted for the protection of Human Rights in India. The resource person further stressed that Human Rights are basic to one's existence and dignity in society and cannot be compromised.
Advent Christmas message was delivered by Nitoi Chaplain of District Jail, while short speech was delivered by Assistant Jailor, KumsutoShohe.
The jail inmates presented special song, which was followed by Bible reading by Kiyezu (under trial prisoner).
The programme, which was chaired by Tovi Z Yeptho Retainer Lawyer ZDLSA, began with invocation by Hoshepu (Convict).
