Dimapur, October 24 (MExN): District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) conducted legal awareness programmes across the respective districts in the past week.

 

Dimapur: A Legal awareness programme was held at Niuland sub-division, Dimapur on October 23. The programme was chaired by Panel Lawyer Elito Zhimomi. Welcome address was delivered by SDO (Civil) Wacy Kent. Panel Lawyer Khumchuba Chang spoke on Nagaland Village Council and Tribal Act, 1978; Panel Lawyer Visheli Yepthomi spoke on protection of women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005; Panel Lawyer Khrieketounuo Metha spoke on NSLSA schemes on Human Trafficking And Victims Compensation Act, 2015, Panel Lawyer Yanbemo Ngullie spoke on basic legal rights; Panel Lawyer Rokovitsu Khate spoke on Nagaland Money Lenders Act, 2008. 
The programme was summed up by CJM/Secretary Ajongba Imchen. Total number of 145 beneficiaries attended the programme.

 

Peren: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Peren organised a one-day workshop on Mediation Techniques with the Peren District Dobashis which was attended by 40 (forty) Dobashis from different circles under Peren on October 23.  


The chairperson for the programme Asuni (panel lawyer) also highlighted the working mechanism of Legal Services Authority. Resource Person Limhathung Ezong from State Legal Services Authority spoke on the significance of mediation, the requisite skills and knowledge of a mediator and the steps to be taken in order to achieve a successful mediation between the disputed parties.


 
Phek: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Phek conducted orientation training for Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) on October 21.


During the training, Keneinuo Swuro, Panel Lawyer, Phek DLSA spoke on the role and responsibilities, purpose, dos and don’ts of PLVs. She stated that the Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) are engaged to ensure that legal aid is reached to sections of people and are expected to act as intermediaries bridging the gap between the people and the legal institutions. "They are expected not only to impart the legal awareness on law and legal system but would be able to assist the people who are in need of legal assistance."


Resource person Cheliam Khiamniungan, Secretary Phek DLSA spoke on the role of PLVs at legal services clinics, police station, jail, home and public places. 


She highlighted on how the PLVs can provide the people in need of legal assistance in these places and further encouraged them to build a good relation with various stakeholders like district administration, village councils and keep watch in locality, identify the people in need of legal assistance and provide assistance to the people in need of the legal aid.


Sekhotso Rokha, Panel Lawyer Phek DLSA spoke on government schemes and various schemes under NSLSA  and the PLVs’ role on how to  identify the beneficiaries  and provide assistance.


Further, practical classes on how to file FIR, simple application affidavit and application to the departments was conducted by Mezivolu Therieh, Chairperson Phek DLSA and District & Sessions Judge.


PLVs from various clinics attended the training. Interactive session was conducted and certificates were also given away. The training was chaired by Cheliam Khiamniungan, Secretary, Phek DLSA and keynote address was delivered by Mezivolu therieh , Chairperson PDLSA.
