Chairman of the Dimapur Municipal Council, Y Vikheho Awomi, today tendered his resignation. “In view of the ongoing crisis in the Dimapur Municipal Council, within the NPF elected Councillors inspite of enjoying a majority of 17, I have tendered my resignation to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, to uphold the NPF party and the NPF led DAN Government.”

While saying that the functioning of the DMC should continue for the welfare of the people, Vikheho said, “This is politics and anything can happen anytime but as far as my knowledge is concerned, in this short span of one year during which I have served the people of Dimapur in the capacity of Chairperson of the DMC, I have done nothing to offend any of my honourable members neither do I have anything against anyone of them.” Reasons for resentment against him are their own perception, he said in a release.

He said he would cherish through all his life the “little initiatives and achievements for the people” which have been brought about in one year in office. No matter whoever assumes the chair, he said, he and his senior colleagues would give full cooperation in the interest of the NPF and for the welfare of the general public.

“It is my earnest and sincere request to the general public to continue to extend their tireless support and cooperation as they have done so in this past one year towards building a better Dimapur for ourselves and our future generations.”

Meanwhile, it would be of public information to note that the NPF central observers had issued a release notifying Vikheho’s removal which actually came in yesterday. However, the NPF had withdrawn the statement for reasons best known to them. A Xeroxed copy of the same order had then been submitted again today.

A top politician, when contacted yesterday, had requested the withdrawal of the statement. One of those who had signed the verdict had also asked that the contents of the order be not made public yesterday. Speculations are rife that these developments suggest a chasm between members of the NPF high command.
