Dimapur, March 31 (MExN): The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has granted a one-time extension of one month for continued use of its existing dumping site, following special requests from lessees, permit holders contractors, and other stakeholders.
In a partial modification to its earlier notification dated March 26, 2026, which had ordered discontinuation of garbage dumping at the site with effect from March 30, 2026, the DMC has now allowed authorised lessees, permit holders, contractors, commercial establishments, institutions and bulk waste generators to utilise the site up to April 30, 2026, subject to strict compliance with conditions.
“This extension is purely temporary, exceptional, and granted on humanitarian and administrative grounds, and shall not be construed as a matter of right or precedent,” stated Thungchanbemo Tungoe, Chief Executive Officer, DMC, in a press release. It added that the permission remains revocable at any time without prior notice in public interest or administrative exigency.
All users have been directed to ensure strict adherence to segregation norms and scientific disposal practices in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and applicable municipal guidelines. Dumping at unauthorised locations within the jurisdiction of DMC shall not be permitted under any circumstances, it stated.
The DMC cautioned that any violation of the directions shall attract penal action, including imposition of fines, cancellation of lease or permit, and other actions as per relevant provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023 and applicable rules.
All stakeholders have been advised to make necessary alternative arrangements for waste management within the extended period, as no further extension shall be granted under any circumstances, the release added. Cooperation of all stakeholders has been solicited in ensuring public health, environmental protection and maintenance of cleanliness within Dimapur.
