Dimapur, July 15 (MExN): Dimapur has been selected as one of the 20 cities in India to conduct workshop on six waste management rules.
A two-day capacity building workshop on “six waste management rules,” notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India in 2016, will be held in Dimapur on July 17 to 18 at Hotel Acacia.
The six waste management rules are as follows: Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016; E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016; Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016; Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016; Solid Waste Management Rules 2016.
A press release issued by the DMC has informed that in order to ensure affective implementation of these rules, the MoEF & CC along with the National Productivity Council (NPC) is organizing the workshop in 20 cities of India.
Dimapur has been selected as one of the cities under this program, which is being organized along with Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), it said.
The NPC is an autonomous body under Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, and is serving as National Programme Coordinator for the said Capacity Building Project on Six Waste Management Rules (2016).
The Council also informed that the workshop in Dimapur will enable various stakeholders to implement the Waste Management Rules and in performing duties towards achieving the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission of Government of India and requested all the invited participants to attend the workshop.
“The Capacity Building Project seeks to strengthen institutional capacities at ULBS and amongst stakeholders towards collection, treatment, disposal and efficient management of various types and categories of wastes, promote 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) initiatives and dissemination of good practices and facilitate integrated efforts towards achieving improvement in general health of city environment etc,” it added.
