Dimapur Municipal Council on Thursday launched its website, www.dmc.nagaland.gov.in with the objective of disseminating information to the public about its activities and programmes and to have a better interface with the citizens.

The website was launched by Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio at the office chamber of DMC Administrator, Moa Sangtam.

Speaking at the programme, Zhaleo told the DMC staff that their work and responsibilities would keep on increasing manifold with growing population and stressed on the need to have better infrastructure to look after the city needs. “DMC has to provide the best of sanitation and build infrastructure to suit current needs and sustain any season,” he said.

However, Zhaleo said that no matter the amount of efforts put in by the municipality, unless the citizens adopt good hygienic practices, it would be next to impossible for authorities to keep city clean, green and healthy. “Let us involve ourselves in keeping our environment clean,” he urged upon the public.

Zhaelo pointed out that the DMC has a lot of resources from different sources like toll taxes, trade license fees, rents from immovable properties etc and that it would be awkward to encounter situations like shortage of money to pay staff salaries.

Stating that the public can access all information about DMC on its website, Zhaleo said, “do not keep anything hidden, be transparent in collection of resources and depositing it too.”

He appreciated the efforts of current Administrator, Moa in launching the website and also lauded former Administrator, H. Atokhe Aye for initiating the need to have a website during his time.

Earlier, Moa Sangtam said that the DMC was planning to make all payments online through the website and appealed for public support. He also said that the Municipal envisages to make the town open defecation free by November this year. Moa also thanked the former Administrator, Atokhe for commissioning the website in January 2016. The website was designed by Symbios.
