Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) in collaboration with Living for Environment (LiFE) on Tuesday started its mission of collecting plastic wastes from various government offices and educational institutions in Dimapur.
The two bodies placed a dustbin at DC Office Complex for the purpose in the presence of ADC Dimapur, Sara Jamir.
DMC Administrator, Moa Sangtma explained that dustbins would be placed in various offices and educational institutions in the days to come for collection of plastic wastes which would be used for construction of roads. “If the plastic wastes are collected in excess, it would be sold to re-cycling plants so that it does not end up at dumping sites,” he said.
Moa informed that the DMC had ordered a plastic straightening machine from China and was expected to reach in a month’s time. He said the mission of collecting plastic wastes would be expanded to the rest of offices and educational institutions.
Later, the team went to the office of the Commissioner of Taxes and placed dustbins there too.
