DMC on shifting of footpath vendors

DIMAPUR, OCT 11 (MExN): The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) while calling the attention of all the footpath vendors in particular and the public in general has issued a clarification in regard to an article published by a body called the Naga Bazaar Society in a section of the local media on October 11.

The press release issued by Y Vikheho Awomi, Chairperson, stated that the DMC had painstakingly undertaken the ‘Herculean task’ of shifting all unauthorized and illegal footpath vendors under its jurisdiction to the Supermarket area for the reason that trading/selling merchandise on the footpath in and around the said area had become the most unpleasant sight which also had created congestion within the market. In this regard the DMC reminded that only unauthorized and illegal footpath vendors were being shifted to the designated places so that the problem of congestion remains eradicated once and for all. It added that those traders who have acquired stalls shall not be shifted and hence, there should be no confusion in the minds of the general public and the unauthorized footpath vendors.

The DM was of the opinion that in spite of numerous financial constrains, the DMC has put in tremendous efforts by investing whatever was necessary towards acquiring the said market besides making all necessary arrangements so that the underprivileged may be provided with due privileges. Hence, this move should not be considered as denial to the under privileged in any way. “It is rather an earnest effort to ensure that all concerned avails due and equal privileges” the DMC Chairman added.
