DMI St Joseph Global School celebrates Matribhasha Diwas

Dimapur, February 22 (MExN): DMI St Joseph Global School celebrated International Mother Language Day (Matribhasha Diwas) on February 21 at the school premises.
The programme was held with an objective to conform to the direction of the CBSE and to drive home the message about the significance of UNESCO promoting the dissemination of mother tongue and awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.
Students of class VI displayed quotes written in chart in various languages like Hindi, Tamil, Assamese, Telugu, Malayalam etc to mark the importance of the occasion.
The highlight of the celebration was the debate on ‘Impact of Mobile Phones on students,’ where students from the four houses - Red, Blue, Green and Yellow took part articulating their views on the topic in Nagamese.
Principal T Backiyaraj, in his keynote address reiterated the theme of the International Mother Language Day 2020 – Languages without borders.
He enthralled the students with a few sentences in as many as ten languages to the students, to which they learnt with enthusiasm.
The Principal further urged them to learn other languages as well, as it is not only the medium of communication but also connects people to transact, learn their cultures, literature and lifestyles. An essay writing competition on the topic “Importance of Mother Tongue in one’s life” was yalso held. The programme was coordinated by the Social Science department of the school.
