The Dimapur Police today came out with details of the kidnapping and rescue of a 3 year-old boy. The investigation and subsequent rescue of the child was described as the result of a “sophisticated investigation” involving telecom data analysis.

Naieem Mustafa Mansury, DCP Zone-1, disclosed at a press briefing today that the child was rescued in less than 30 hours after missing complaint was received by the police.

The child went missing reportedly around 6:30-7:00 pm on September 10 at Purana Bazaar and was rescued from Monsingh Teron village in Karbi Anglong, Assam, located around 5km from NH 29 in between Bokajan and Khatkhati.

The parents lodged the police complaint after receiving a ransom call. According to Mansury, the call was made from a ‘black’ SIM that proved crucial in locating the hideout where the child was held hostage. The ransom demanded was Rs 15,00,000, which was reduced to Rs 10,00,000.

The child was rescued from a secluded spot without use of force.

Five persons were arrested in connection to the abduction, including the mastermind identified as one Jiboraj Mech (26 years), whom the police said was a neighbour of the child and owns a shop in Purana Bazaar. The other four were identified as Dilwar Hussain (21 years), Rahul Narzary (24 years), Vikram Singh (21 years) and Md Yashin Ali (32 years).
