Kohima, June 3 (MExN): As part of pre-campaign activities under Mission LiFE to mark World Environment Day 2026, the Department of New and Renewable Energy (DNRE), Kohima, organised essay writing, slogan writing and drawing competitions for high school students on the theme "Climate Action" at its directorate on June 2.

Delivering the keynote address, Director of New and Renewable Energy, Er James Khala, stressed the importance of environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources in the face of increasing developmental activities. He encouraged students to actively contribute towards safeguarding the planet for future generations.

In the Slogan Writing Competition, Anguni Nagi of Baptist Mission School, Jotsoma, secured the first prize, while Neisavono Nagi of the same school won second prize. The third prize was jointly awarded to Chozi Rose of Oking Christian School and Muluseto Swuro of Alderville Higher Secondary School.

In the Drawing Competition, Ketoubi Semo of Baptist Mission School won first prize. Thejaser Sano secured second place, while Suman Teron of Alderville Higher Secondary School finished third.

In the Essay Writing Competition, Neilakieü Miachieo of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima, won first prize. Kethoseno Nakhro of Alderville Higher Secondary School secured second place, while Thejasier Nagi of Baptist Mission School stood third.

A total of six schools participated in the event.

The programme began with an invocation by Joint Director Lhuobeizo Kesiyie. Additional Director Er Inaho P. Awomi welcomed the participants, while Deputy Director Neizeno Peseyie briefed students on the competition guidelines.

Prizes were distributed to the winners, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Joint Director Er Renilo Nuh.
