Dimapur, May 4 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has alleged illegal mutation and fraudulent transfer of land under Patta No. 890, which it said had been cancelled on November 23, 2009 vide DC Order No. REV-20/008-D/8979-83.
In a press release, the union claimed that despite the cancellation, the land was mutated through alleged tampering of the original Field Chitha Book dated 2012 and transferred in the names of Girdharlal Sharma, Bajrang Lal Pareek and Kumar Sharma.
Terming the development a serious violation of law and administrative integrity, the DNSU further alleged that the individuals involved do not possess valid Indigenous Certificates, raising concerns over the legality of the transaction.
The union claimed that the land was procured from Nirmal Jain through the use of local or benami names, with the transactions allegedly witnessed and facilitated under questionable circumstances.
The DNSU said it had earlier exposed Girdharlal Sharma, Dr Sundar Pareek and Vinod Kumar Sharma in the media, and issued a warning against any individual or group attempting to engage in or facilitate such transfers.
Stating that the matter goes beyond an isolated land dispute, the union said it concerns the collective rights, identity and future of the Naga people, asserting that land and its resources are intrinsic to their existence.
The DNSU appealed to the government and concerned authorities to immediately halt any issuance, mutation or transfer of the land until the matter is thoroughly investigated and resolved.
It also called for strict legal action against all those allegedly involved in the manipulation of official land records, and urged authorities to identify and seize lands acquired through benami or illegal means and ensure their use in the interest of the public.
The union reiterated its commitment to safeguarding land rights and said it would continue to take necessary steps to ensure accountability.
