DNSU appeals for actions on student welfare

Dimapur, June 12 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) on June 12 appealed the state government to make some relaxation for the border areas of Dimapur where thousands of students are stranded and unable to come to Dimapur for admission and various other purposes due to closure of all entry points.

DNSU appealed to all schools (including CBSE board) and colleges (including Autonomous) not to charge exorbitant amount for issuing prospectus and registration forms.

While noting that some top educational institutions in Nagaland are charging maximum Rs 200/300 only, DNSU said that there are some which need to show leniency.  Reiterating its appeal to all educational institutions to give concessions on fees due to non-utility of resources for co-curricular activities, the Union strongly objected the deduction of full amount of fees “without conducting any classes whatsoever.”

In both matters, the DNSU appealed the intervention of PCAN and ANPSA.

The Union also appealed to hostels managed by both private and educational institutions not to charge fees as the accommodations are not in use.

It further appealed for the educational institutions to “identify parents who are daily wage earners and to waive or give concession on fees as their source of income are totally cut off.” At the same time, DNSU also asked all the parents to be considerate towards the educational institutions as they are also saving financially in terms of conveyance fare/fuel, pocket money, tiffin expenses and many others.

DNSU also asked Nagaland University to come out with clear cut information for all Under Graduate, Post Graduate and other related courses once and for all, so that the students will be prepared for any eventuality as many will be going for further studies and are getting delayed for admission to their next classes.

It asked all educational institutions within its jurisdiction to be fully equipped to cater to the needs of the students in imparting education at these difficult times, while reminding them not to delay payment of its employees' salary as they depend on the same for survival.

The Union has also asked all educational institutions to also provide hard copy materials to the students and not only depend on online classes alone.

DNSU appealed the state government to provide relief fund, especially to private institutions severely hit due to this pandemic as they are taking care of lakhs of students.”

The Union informed that under the Nagaland Board of School Education, General Rules, Chapter V (1) Managing Committee for registered institutions should include one parent/guardian representative as member.

This committee ensures that the institution is running according to the guidelines given by the NBSE and if parents are not part of the committee, they can question the authority about it for transparency as parents also play an integral part in uplifting the educational institutions, DNSU stated.
