DNSU appeals govt to revoke COVID-19 cess

Dimapur, September 13 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has once again raised serious concern over COVID-19 cess on petrol and diesel and called the state to revoke the hike.

DNSU through its media cell has urged the government to be more responsible and not rely upon the general public to meet the state financial exigencies at this crucial point of time.

“In recent times keeping the extraordinary situation in mind, the expenditure for transportation, and other essential commodities in both urban and rural areas have been abnormally augmented. Hence, the public have been adversely affected and economically exhausted in every aspect of life,” the Union pointed out.

The Union also a “reminder” stated that business establishments are now back in full operation, and the government is receiving enough funds from the central government to curb the COVID-19 Pandemic. “As such, it is not necessary any longer to continue with the cess on Petrol and diesel,” it reiterated.

Therefore, the Union “without hesitation on these regards,” has expressed “genuine concern for the people and urge the state government to cater to the plea and hardship of the people and to revoke the COVID-19 cess on fuel immediately.”

Further, DNSU also stated that “failure to turn ears towards this genuine issue, the Union will be compelled to stage protest as deem fit.”

The Union has also urged all the civil societies to join hands with the cause towards this genuine issue, to revoke the COVID-19 cess levied on the general public.
