Dimapur, February 15 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed concern over what it termed as complaints from students and parents regarding high fees being charged by certain educational institutions for reappearing in failed subjects during model tests and internal examinations.
In a press release, the Union stated that while it recognises the need for institutions to levy reasonable and nominal re-examination fees for administrative purposes, reports indicated that some institutions are allegedly charging between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000 per subject.
The amounts are reportedly refundable upon successfully clearing the examination, with institutions justifying the practice as a means to encourage academic seriousness, it added.
However, DNSU maintained that while academic discipline is important, such measures should not impose financial strain on parents and guardians.
It emphasised that student motivation and academic improvement must be promoted through constructive and student-friendly approaches rather than financial pressure.
The Union has appealed to the concerned institutions to review and rationalise the fee structure to ensure fairness and reasonableness. It further stated that it will continue to monitor the matter to safeguard the interests of students and parents.
For grievances, DNSU has asked affected individuals to contact its Assistant General Secretary at +91 98626 75997.
