DNSU ‘NO’ to cabinet decision

Dimapur, November 17 (MExN): Asserting serious concern for the younger generation and excess unemployment problem in the state, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) stands firmly against the Thursday Cabinet decision in enhancing the superannuation age of government employees from 57 to 60 years.

The DNSU wonders that while there is a rapid growth of unemployment problem in the State, how the government could take such a decision and maliciously hamper the prospect of determined younger bloods. “The union, having been made several appeals to the government earlier and having reposing faith that the Government would do justice for the unemployed youth, now see that the Government meant only double standard game” stated the DNSU in a note from its executives. The organization stated that Naga Students Federation had been making appeals to the state Government since 1991 and had even undergone fast unto death. The union informed that a MoU was signed between the NSF and the State Government earlier, but the State Government had unilaterally abrogated the said agreement by taking the Thursday decision to enhance the superannuation age even without consulting the NSF.

There are many Government servants who are over-aged and “physically weak” but still serving by tempering their age even today, for which many dynamic educated youth are being deprived of opportunities, the DNSU stated.

While welcoming the Cabinet decision of withdrawing the existing blanket ban on creation of posts, and enhancing for entering into Government service from 30 years to 35 years, the DNSU urged the Government to “deliver justice in enhancing superannuation.” The organization stated that failure by the State Government to meet the students’ demands the DNSU will have no option but to support the NSF and will go to any extent.
