DIMAPUR, JULY 14 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the district administration and concerned authorities, demanding immediate action against Nirmal Jain, whom it described as a "habitual offender" involved in multiple criminal activities, including alleged benami transactions and fuel adulteration cases.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the DNSU expressed serious concern over what it termed as "prolonged inaction" and lack of transparent findings regarding investigations into Jain's alleged criminal activities.
The Union said it had earlier submitted detailed representations urging a comprehensive probe into Jain’s activities, claiming that despite a "well-known history of criminal offenses", he had consistently evaded justice.
"It is high time the administration presents its fact-findings to the public. Despite being a habitual offender, Nirmal Jain manages to escape accountability, raising serious doubts over the integrity of our administrative system," the statement said.
The DNSU alleged that Jain’s continued acquisition of indigenous certificates and properties through fraudulent means poses a direct threat to the land and identity of the indigenous people of Nagaland.
The Union has demanded immediate cancellation of all indigenous certificates and properties allegedly fraudulently possessed by Jain.
“The public is keenly awaiting justice. Failure to deliver justice will mark one of the darkest chapters in the history of Dimapur. Any attempt to delay the investigation in the pretext of ‘fact-finding’ will only aggravate public sentiment,” the Union warned.
The DNSU further stated that Jain’s "past pattern" of absconding from Dimapur and returning after cases had “cooled down” would not be tolerated. It warned that no individual, politician, political party, NGO, government official, Naga political organisation or civil society organisation should support Jain’s activities.
“The ball is now squarely in the hands of the administration. If any government official, political organisation, CSO or individual is found assisting Nirmal Jain, they will face public ire,” the statement said.
The DNSU also appealed to citizens not to engage in land transactions involving Jain, stating that individuals doing so would bear full responsibility for any consequences.
It asserted that if administrative action within the stipulated 15-day period fails to produce justifiable punishment, the Union, with public support, would be compelled to take its own course of action to ensure justice.
The Union called on all sections of society to be prepared to stand for their "inalienable rights."
