DNSU urges govt to release teachers’ salaries

Dimapur, October 25 (MExN): Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) today expressed support to the Nagaland SSA Teachers’ Association (NSSATA) in its fight against non-payment of salary, however it also appealed to the teachers’ association to reconsider the agitation (class boycott).

“The office of the DNSU understands the terribly prolonged frustrations of the teachers but also request to view in the light of agitation where the effects on students are also real and damaging,” stated a press release from DNSU president, Sungkum Aier and education & statistics secretary, DNSU.

The students’ union stressed that due to nonpayment of salary to the SSA teachers and Hindi Teachers, “students are victimized and affected at the peak of (academic) closing session.”

To mitigate the situation, the union urged the government to address the matter immediately under any circumstances, while asserting that it will “not compromise at all costs.”

Stating that “the plight of the aggrieved teachers (SSA and Hindi Teachers) should be consoled immediately”, it further appealed to the government to release the pending salaries at the earliest as “there can be no sensible explanation for such treatment to them.” It cautioned that it will take its own course of action if the government fails or delays to pay the salaries to the teachers.
